Based on the Texas Instruments TMS9900 microprocessor originally used in minicomputers, it was the first 16-bit home computer. The associated video display controller provides color graphics and among the best sprite support of its era. It includes a simplified internal design, a full-travel keyboard, improved graphics, and a unique expansion system. At half the price of the original model, sales picked up significantly. TI supported the 4A with peripherals, including a speech synthesizer and a "Peripheral Expansion System" box to contain hardware add-ons. TI released developer information and tools, but the insistence on remaining sole publisher continued to starve the platform of software.</systemDescription> <systemManufacturer>Texas Instruments</systemManufacturer> <systemReleaseYear>1981</systemReleaseYear> <systemReleaseDate>1981-06</systemReleaseDate> <systemReleaseDateFormated>June 1981</systemReleaseDateFormated> <systemHardwareType>Computer</systemHardwareType> <systemCoverSize>1-1</systemCoverSize> <systemColor>5E6064</systemColor> <systemColorPalette1>AAA6A7</systemColorPalette1> <systemColorPalette2>C7C2BE</systemColorPalette2> <systemColorPalette3>1F1F1F</systemColorPalette3> <systemColorPalette4>FD7F34</systemColorPalette4> </variables> <language name="sv_SE"> <variables> <systemHardwareType>Dator</systemHardwareType> </variables> </language> </theme>
